Browns NFL draft rumors: Different likely picks at #6, Carnell Tate rising or falling?
· Yahoo Sports
The Cleveland Browns head into their first day of the offseason program on Tuesday with the final two and a half weeks of 2026 NFL draft prep ahead. The discussion around the Browns has split in two directions recently: the NFL draft and which quarterback will be starting in 2026.
Last year, around this time, Cleveland seemed locked in to drafting WR/CB Travis Hunter, the “Shohei Ohtani” of the NFL draft. Instead, GM Andrew Berry traded down, collected extra picks, and selected DT Mason Graham when the 2025 NFL draft kicked off.

This year’s rumors are generally about the wide receiver and offensive tackle positions, with many believing that the Browns will actually trade down from the sixth overall pick. Monday, ESPN Cleveland host Tony Rizzo said he heard Cleveland is leaning toward drafting OT Monroe Freeling at the top of the draft, like WR Jordyn Tyson, and WR Carnell Tate is dropping:

– OT at 6 and lean is Monroe Freeling
– Browns like Jordyn Tyson
– Carnell Tate could slip out of top 10 pic.twitter.com/0wwCmVT15K
It had previously been reported, by a number of folks in the media, that Cleveland was high on OT Kadyn Proctor, a very toolsy talent to mold into stardom.
While Rizzo thinks Tate is falling, Todd McShay thinks the opposite:
"Don't be surprised if Sonny Styles and Carnell Tate both go in the top 5." Styles not that surprising, but there seems to be momentum for Tate in the top 5 today pic.twitter.com/W7hO1gwcv9

Zac Jackson believes that the Browns are actually leaning toward selecting Tate, if they do not trade down, as he noted last week:
From last week and the close of the owners meetings: Why I think Carnell Tate might be the pick for the Browns at 6 and why Shedeur Sanders is the favorite to be QB1https://t.co/mWRmTPWF23

In checking with different sources, connected to the team and those connected with the league, offensive tackle has been the consistent theme I’ve heard, besides trade down, at the top of the draft. Many believe it is much easier to find a top wide receiver than an offensive tackle, including in this year’s crop.
There have been rumblings that Tyson’s injury and lack of progress could lead him to falling late in the first, and potentially the second round. Those concerns continue to be noted as the draft approaches:
A lot of people jumped on McGinn's quotes about Jordyn Tyson's toughness, but Jeremiah also seems to question it pic.twitter.com/bz4LrnlQeA

What does it all mean? That we really do not know what Berry and company are up to. This year, unlike last year, there are also more picks before Cleveland is on the clock. The Browns had a deal in place in advance if QB Cam Ward was selected first, and then were able to pull the trigger on the trade. There are significantly more variables when selecting sixth overall, including the possibility that Freeling, Tate, and/or Proctor are off the board already.
Do these kinds of rumors interest you as the NFL draft draws closer? How do you decide which ones to believe and which ones to throw out?
