Choco Choo, located at 35 St. Joseph St., near Bay St. and Wellesley St. W., was hit with a closed notice on March 26, due to 11 infractions, according to Toronto Public Health .

Choco Choo prides itself on its breakfast and desserts, specializing in crepes, waffles, croffles and other Belgian chocolate concoctions.

The red notice came following last week’s inspection, earning two crucial infractions, six significant violations, two minor infractions and one “other.”

One of the crucial infractions — “food premise maintained in manner adversely affecting sanitary operation” — warranted a summons and health hazard order, resulting in the closure.

The other crucial violation was that the shop had been storing potential hazardous foods at internal temperatures between 4C and 60C.

Much of the significant infractions appear to be tied to the sanitary conditions of the establishment, including hand-washing stations not conveniently accessible by food handlers, failing to remove wastes when necessary to maintain sanitary conditions, failing to sanitize multi-service articles after use and failing to clean utensils as often as necessary.

Choco Choo also failed to protect against the harbouring of pest and maintain records of pest control measures taken.

The two minor infractions against the shop were failing to protect against the entry of pests, and not maintaining its food-handling room in sanitary condition.

As for the “other” violation, a license was not available at the time of inspection.

Toronto Public Health issued a referral to Municipal Licensing and Standards.

It is unclear when the shop will reopen.
