'Today Is Your Last Working Day': Read Oracle's Full Email Sent To 12,000 Sacked Indian Employees
· Free Press Journal

Twelve thousand Oracle employees in India woke up in the morning to find their careers at the company had ended, not through a conversation with a manager, not through an HR meeting, but through a brief, impersonal email signed 'Oracle Leadership.' Oracle brutally laid off 30,000 employees worldwide, out of which 12,000 were from India

The email, which landed in inboxes at approximately 6 am across time zones, informed employees that their roles had been eliminated with immediate effect as part of a 'broader organisational change.' It told them, in plain terms: today is your last working day.
The message has since been widely circulated on X, Reddit, and other social media platforms, where affected employees confirmed the cuts in real time. The cold, formulaic tone of the communication drew widespread outrage online, with workers describing the experience as deeply dehumanising.

Oracle Layoffs - The EMAIL.

The job cuts will affect somewhere around 20,000 and 30,000 - which is about roughly 18% of their global workforce.

Oracle Layoffs: No warning, no conversation
What struck employees and observers alike was not just the content of the email, but its clinical efficiency. There was no prior communication from HR, no conversation with a direct manager, and no advance notice of any kind. System access, email, voicemail, computer login, files, was cut almost immediately after the message was sent.
Employees were also placed under a time crunch from the moment they opened the email: they were required to submit a personal email address urgently via a linked form before their Oracle accounts were deactivated, failing which they risked missing severance-related communications entirely.
One widely-shared Reddit post captured the sentiment bluntly, "Oracle slashes 30,000 jobs with a cold 6 am email. Workers across the US, India, and other regions learned their jobs were gone before most people had finished their morning coffee."
Oracle layoffs: Over 12,000 employees let go of in India
The 12,000 employees let go in India represent nearly 40 percent of Oracle's estimated 30,000-strong domestic workforce, making this potentially the single largest white-collar layoff executed in one day in India's corporate history. Globally, the company is estimated to have cut between 20,000 and 30,000 roles, roughly 18 percent of its total workforce, according to investment bank TD Cowen.
A second round of layoffs is expected within a month, several media reports suggest.
Oracle layoffs: Why now?
The mass termination is being driven by Oracle's aggressive, debt-funded push into artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company has committed an estimated $156 billion in capital spending on AI data centres, a bet that requires freeing up $8 billion to $10 billion in cash flow, which the layoffs are expected to generate, per TD Cowen analysis.
The severance package offered to affected employees in India reportedly includes 15 days' salary per completed year of service, one month of unpaid wages until the termination date, leave encashment, gratuity where applicable, a one-month notice period payout, and an additional two-month salary top-up. Crucially, this package is reportedly conditional on employees agreeing to resign voluntarily and amicably.
