The victim remains in critical condition and is under police guard.
Two further charges
According to the SABC, during proceedings, State Prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri confirmed that two further charges have been added.
“Attempted murder count one, count two defeating the ends of justice and count three possession of a firearm,” Maphiri told the court.
The additional charges relate to the alleged disappearance of the firearm reportedly used in the shooting.
Court proceedings were briefly delayed after the accused were mistakenly taken to the Randburg Magistrate’s Court instead of Alexandra for their scheduled appearance.
They were later transported to the correct court where the matter proceeded.
The bail application has been postponed to Tuesday, 3 March.
Approach Home Affairs
According to Mugabe’s legal representative Sinenhlanhla Mnguni, police still need to approach the Department of Home Affairs and other agencies to verify certain information relating to the accused.
Both Mugabe and Matonhodze will remain in custody until their bail application is heard.
