Are you an artist who’s been waiting to make your mark? An upcoming MyCiTi bus station in Cape Town may well be the canvas you’ve been looking for.
According to the City of Cape Town, the new station will be situated in Claremont. It will be the first and largest station on what is called the Metro-South East Corridor (also known as the IRT Phase 2A).

MYCITI CALLS ON LOCAL ARTISTS AND CREATIVES
MyCiTi is known for incorporating artwork onto their station infrastructure. Think bunnies blowing about in south-easterly winds. Or, striking murals of Table Mountain, one of the most beautiful mountains in the world.
Many of these stations also depict illustrations, murals and designs that celebrate the socio-cultural and historical identities of the various communities that utilise this bus service.
In keeping with tradition, the City is calling on artists and creatives nationwide to submit their artwork ideas. The successful candidates will then be able to apply their artistic touch to differing sections of the Claremont station.
“This is an exciting opportunity for artists to showcase their creativity, while celebrating Claremont’s history and enhancing the look of the area,” says Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
“A market-related budget will be allocated based on the size, materials and installation of artworks across different spaces in the precinct. Artists can apply for one space per application. Separate submissions are needed for multiple spaces around the bus station.”
