Residents experienced a mix of partly cloudy skies and scattered afternoon showers over the weekend.
On Sunday, SAWS issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, cautioning that heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail could lead to localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and informal settlements in the coming days.
The unsettled weather is linked to a cut-off low-pressure system affecting large parts of the country. Portions of KwaZulu-Natal are expected to experience scattered thunderstorms from Monday, with a 60% to 80% chance of thundershowers over the central and western interior.
Rainfall is forecast to spread to the northern parts of the country by Wednesday.
In Johannesburg, Monday will bring cool to warm conditions, with temperatures reaching a high of 23°C. Tuesday is expected to be mostly overcast, with temperatures around 21°C.
Thunderstorms are expected this week in several provinces
Sunny and clear conditions are forecast for Wednesday, with a 0% chance of rain. However, from Thursday, SAWS predicts a return of thunderstorms in Gauteng, accompanied by a drop in daytime temperatures into the mid- to high-20s.
Residents are urged to stay updated with official weather alerts and exercise caution during severe weather conditions.
