Ex-University basketball standout Joshua Henderson headed to Carmel; what we know
· Yahoo Sports
Joshua Henderson, leading scorer and rebounder at University this season, is headed to Carmel.
Henderson’s father, former Indiana star and NBA player Alan Henderson, said his son is enrolling at Carmel on Thursday after withdrawing from school at University a day earlier. Carmel is the Hendersons’ district school.

Joshua Henderson averaged 19.3 points and 7.1 rebounds in 17 games this season for the 13-7 Trailblazers, who played for the Class 2A state championship last season. The 6-6 junior averaged 7.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots on last year’s 20-10 state runner-up team.
“Josh met some good people and had some good experiences (at University),” Alan Henderson said Thursday morning. “He got a chance to develop and get on the court and continue to work on his game. Academically, he enjoyed his teachers and classes. There was a lot of good, but this is something where he wants to try to continue his development. It was a family decision.”
Henderson’s daughter, freshman Brooke, is also transferring from University to Carmel. She was a standout on the volleyball team last fall for the Trailblazers.
Under the Indiana High School Athletic Association transfer rules, a player transferring for the first time in high school during the season is required to sit out 30 days. Carmel (14-4) has three regular-season games remaining, then the sectional March 3-7 at Noblesville.
University’s next game is at KIPP Indy Legacy on Thursday night.
It is not ideal timing for University, which is gearing up for a difficult sectional at Cardinal Ritter. Coach Justin Blanding said the team remains positive and does still have a solid senior core, led by Faisal Mohamud (12.3 ppg, 3.2 assists), Blake Gray (12.2 ppg, 3.4 assists) and Josh McGee (10.1 ppg, 3.8 assists).
