The New England Patriots moved on from Stefon Diggs this offseason, but signed Romeo Doubs to give Drake Maye a new weapon in the passing game.

Doubs is a very talented player who was perhaps held back a little bit by the Green Bay Packers offensive philosophy. The Packers like to spread the ball, but on the Patriots, he could fill a true No. 1 receiver role, as Diggs did. He has never been a true No. 1 in the NFL, but Patriots legend Julian Edelman thinks he is more than capable.
"He's a professional," Edelman told Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller on Saturday. "I'm really excited to see him with Drake. He's got a lot in his route tree. He's consistent. And I think bringing a player with that professionalism in that room, I think it's going to be great."
Doubs has 2,424 career regular-season receiving yards. His career high in receiving yards for a single season is 724, set last year. He has big shoes to fill, as Diggs was a 1,000-yard receiver last season. However, he is talented enough to do it, and on the Patriots, he could finally be the focal point of a passing attack.
Edelman is fourth all-time in receiving yards and receptions in Patriots history. He is second all-time in targets for the franchise. He is a good authority on what it takes to be a good receiver for the Patriots, and he seems to think Doubs has the right tools. However, he noted whose opinion really matters.
"It all depends on what Drake thinks, though, right," he added, per Weller. "So we'll see."
