· Yahoo Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers (40-26-12) are back in the Motor City, taking on the Detroit Red Wings (40-29-9) one last time this season at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Thursday.

It is a big game for the Flyers, who are kicking off a crucial home stretch in the final four games.

The Flyers enter Thursday’s matchup on a three-game winning streak, going 3-2-0 over the last 5 games, and 7-3-0 over the last 10. Philly is on its second three-game winning streak of the past 10 games. This is their 11th such streak of the season.

The Red Wings enter Thursday’s contest on the opposite streak. It’s been three games without a win for Detroit. Its last win was their victory over the Flyers in Philadelphia on Thursday prior. The Red Wings are 1-3-1 over the last 5, and 3-6-1 over the last 10.

Thursday is a game between two teams who desperately need wins for two different reasons, but all with the same end goal.

Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. EST at Little Caesars Arena. Here is how the Flyers are expected to line up.

Game Notes

Last preview, I predicted Sam Ersson in goal, and I was wrong. I won’t make that mistake this time. The Flyers had the day off on Wednesday, so I’d assume that means Dan Vladar is in goal for the Flyers. Plus, Thursday’s game is a big one for the Flyers. I assume that means the No. 1 goalie is in goal.

Trevor Zegras hit a career-high 25 goals on Tuesday. His line was an absolute driving factor in the game. Zegras and Tyson Foerster each scored twice on Tuesday. On Thursday, keep an eye on Owen Tippett to find the back of the net against the Red Wings. Tippett has 5 points in 2 games against Detroit this season.

The Flyers have not won four straight games in 10 tries this season. Thursday is their 11th chance to win four in a row this year, something they haven’t done in over 2 years. If there was ever a time for the Flyers to snap that streak, now is a great time to do so.

The Flyers’ magic number is 7 points to clinch a playoff birth. However, there are scenarios where the Flyers could shrink that number and clinch before the season finale. All of those scenarios require the Flyers to earn 4 points over the next three games. A win to start that would be ideal.
