The Boston Bruins dropped a tough one on Saturday night against the first-place Tampa Bay Lightning by a total score of 3-1 after Tampa Bay potted an empty netter ahead of the final horn.

The Bruins led 1-0 heading into the third period, and starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman was standing on his head. That is, until Tampa Bay’s Darren Raddysh snapped one in from the right wing on what The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa described as a “routine save” for Swayman.

“When Darren Raddysh flipped a 32-foot shot on goal from outside the right faceoff dot in the third period, the last thing anyone expected was for it to find the back of the net,” Shinzawa wrote. “Swayman saw Raddysh’s release. He was square to the shot. But Raddysh’s shot clunked off the right side of Swayman’s chest and under his right armpit.

“That’s goaltending.”

A beyond-brutal break for the goaltender who is the main reason why the Bruins are making a playoff push to begin with.

Swayman spoke to the media about the one that got away during his 20-save night.

“Any 2-1 game, you’re going to get goals that are magnified,” Swayman said. “At the same time, it’s our job to move forward and really take positives. A lot of great things came out of tonight’s game. That’s what we need to focus on.”

Swayman isn’t wrong. For nearly all 60 minutes, the Bruins were the better team on the road. Ultimately, a one-goal game can not be boiled down to a single save the goaltender would want back. Regardless, the Bruins could have used these two points as they continue their end-of-the-season gauntlet against all playoff competition.
