According to reports, a large number of women and men had gathered outside the agency from as early as 5 am to secure their turn for cylinders.
However, when supplies did not reach them even after long hours of waiting, the frustrated consumers raised slogans against the agency and staged a road blockade. It disrupted traffic movement on the busy four-lane stretch.
On receiving information, police officials reached the spot and persuaded the protesters to clear the road and avoid creating further inconvenience. Following the assurances, consumers returned to the agency premises and again stood in queues for cylinders.
Consumers alleged that they have been struggling to obtain cylinders for nearly a month, while cylinders are reportedly available at double the price. With no alternative cooking arrangements, many families, especially women, expressed deep frustration over the ongoing shortage.
