Incoming ASU basketball coach sidelined by health issue

It's been a week since Arizona State announced it was bringing over longtime Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett to replace Bobby Hurley as its new men's basketball coach. The celebratory introductory press conference last week was postponed as the incoming coach was dealing with a health issue.
There is still no clarity as to what the issue is, but Bennett, 63, put out a statement on his status.

“Last week, when I arrived in Arizona, a health situation surfaced that I’m working through right now," his statement said. "I’m in good hands, we feel good about the plan, and I’m incredibly appreciative of the care I’ve received from the team at Mayo Clinic. Everything is under control, and I will be back at full strength very soon."
The setback comes as the incoming coach has many duties on his plate. He is still assembling a coaching staff.
Rick Croy and Joe Rahon will both join the program as associate head coaches. Croy comes over from California Baptist, which participated in the NCAA Tournament after winning the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Croy was also an assistant on Bennett's staff for three years at St. Mary's.
Rahon was part of Bennett's staff for the last five years.
The new coach says he is still working on the next tasks on his to-do list.
“What I want people to know is that nothing about our momentum has changed,” Bennett said in his statement. “We are moving forward, and I am excited to announce two of our associate head coaches, a duo I have a ton of trust in and who truly want to be at ASU. They both bring great experience, strong relationships, and real energy as our program continues to grow. I am very confident in where we are going and how this initial group of coaches is coming together. I look forward to meeting everyone who is ready to make Sun Devil basketball great very soon.”
No doubt, having two coaches in place will help with other details.
The transfer portal opens on April 7, after the completion of the NCAA Tournament. Two ASU players have indicated they plan to enter the portal, and Bennett will no doubt be looking to add to his roster.
