Nico Hoerner and the Chicago Cubs reached an agreement on a six-year deal over the weekend, one that made sense for both sides.

The right-handed hitting second baseman has been one of the better in baseball over the past few years, and the Cubs will now have him at a rather reasonable price as they look to contend.

For the Cubs, they were smart with what they did. According to Bruce Levine, he wanted a full no-trade clause, but the Cubs didn't give in on that.

“Cubs President of baseball ops Jed Hoyer said one of the major demands by Hoerner and his agency was a full no-trade clause,” Levine wrote on X. “Hoyer said there would not been an agreement without it.”

I completely understand why the 28-year-old wanted a no-trade clause, as he was in trade rumors throughout the offseason.

However, from the Cubs' perspective, there wasn't much of a reason to give him one. He's a two-time Gold Glove winner and has genuinely been a very good player for the Cubs, but full no-trade clauses have to be given to players who are absolute superstars.

The Cubs still did right by him, giving Hoerner $141 million.
