Eskom has confirmed a planned 14-hour power outage in parts of Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), as part of ongoing maintenance on its distribution network. The interruption is scheduled for Wednesday, 1 April, from 5h00 to 19h00, and will affect several communities supplied by the Bloukrans/Buffelshoek 1 132kV overhead line.

In a notice issued under Eskom KZN, the power utility stated that the outage forms part of essential work to maintain infrastructure reliability in the area.
“Customers are advised of a planned outage affecting the Bloukrans/Buffelshoek 1 132kV Overhead Line in the Estcourt area of service,” Eskom said.
Areas affected by the power outage
The scheduled power outage will impact multiple rural and residential areas within the Estcourt supply zone. These include Drakensberg Rural, Emaswazini (Kwasmahla), Emoyeni, Mqedandaba, Ngonyameni, Nkomokazini, Shiyabazali and Tatane.
Eskom has also provided an alternate date of 9 April in case unforeseen circumstances delay the planned maintenance.
The utility emphasised the scale of the work, which requires a full-day shutdown of the electricity supply to ensure that technicians can safely access and service the infrastructure. While such power outages may cause disruption, Eskom maintains that they remain necessary to reduce the risk of unplanned breakdowns in future.
Safety precautions during outage
Eskom has further urged the public to remain vigilant and prioritise safety throughout the outage period. The power utility cautioned that all electrical installations should be treated as live at all times, even when the power supply is interrupted.
“Please take all safety precautions during the outage and treat all electrical installations as live at all times,” the notice read.
The utility also apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their cooperation during the maintenance process.
