Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles has been one of the best players in baseball since making his debut. Outside of Bobby Witt Jr., and there’s even an argument there, Henderson has been the best shortstop in baseball.

His next step is becoming an MVP winner, or breaking some records, and many expect him to do that in the near future.

FanSided’s Jake Elman predicted that Henderson would join the elite 40-40 club, putting him in a category we’ve hardly seen at the highest level. It’s a big projection, but honestly, not a bad one with how well Henderson has played.

“Easy: Henderson has already established himself as a perennial MVP candidate, and this is the natural next step. Even with his reduced power last year, Henderson still had 34 doubles, and he’ll have added support via Pete Alonso’s arrival.

“Although if I’m skeptical the Orioles make the postseason, I still suggest buying high on Henderson,” he wrote.

For Henderson’s sake, he wasn’t great last season, hitting just 17 home runs in 154 games. That was much less than his 37 in 2024. However, he stole the most bags of his career with 30 and still posted a 121 OPS+.

If he can get back to his 155 OPS+ days and hit the ball out of the yard at the level we all know he can, there’s no reason he can’t put up a 40-40 season if things fall the right way.
