Peel Regional Police have charged a man they accused of being a “prolific dangerous driver” after a traffic stop in Brampton.

The driver was allegedly able to flee from police in a “dangerous manner” after they attempted a traffic stop.

The next morning at about 8 a.m., officers allegedly found the driver at Sunforest and Wexford Rd. In an attempt to escape, the driver allegedly backed into a police cruiser, but was then pinned by other responding cruisers.

“ Further investigation determined that the driver was involved in three prior incidents where he fled from police attempting to stop him for observed offences,” police alleged in a news release. “In each of those cases, while evading, his behaviour placed the public at significant risk.”

Cops release footage of traffic stop

The driver allegedly had a replica gun on him when he was arrested, police said.

Police released video of the traffic stop and arrest, which includes a passenger hopping out of the vehicle “wanting nothing to do with this” and officers commenting on the amount of lollipops in the accused’s vehicle.

Media relations officer Const. Ty Bell says in the video that the accused had allegedly mounted curbs, driven into oncoming traffic and onto sidewalks at “high rates of speed with no care in the world” during prior attempts to flee from police.

“Good job officers,” Bell says at the end of the video.
