Mike Sinz, following last week’s announcement that he will depart Menomonie High School after the school year, will take over as the Huskies head coach next season.

He also will join North’s teaching staff, according to North athletic director Mike Pernsteiner.

“Eau Claire North High School welcomes Mike Sinz as the new Head Football Coach of the Huskies,” Pernsteiner said in a statement. “With a strong track record in program development and student-athlete leadership, Coach Sinz will build on Coach McGinnis’s work from the past four seasons. He will also join our teaching staff.”

In his five seasons as the head coach of the Mustangs, Sinz posted an overall record of 30-23. He led Menomonie to the WIAA playoffs in each year, with his first season being his best as Menomonie finished with a 10-2 and a Big Rivers Conference championship.

“Coach Sinz dedicated significant time, effort and passion to our football program,” Menomonie athletic director Matt Riley said in a release on Sinz. “During his tenure, he positively influenced the lives of our student-athletes both on and off the field. His commitment to the program contributed to shaping the culture of our program and strengthening our school community. We sincerely appreciate his leadership and the relationships he established with our athletes, families, staff, and community supporters.”

A 2001 Menomonie graduate, Sinz followed in the footsteps of Joe LaBuda after LaBuda retired in 2021 after 32 years of coaching. Sinz was a member of the 1999 Mustang state championship team under LaBuda.

Before then, Sinz coached at Eau Claire Memorial High School for four years and Mondovi High School for eight seasons.

Now, he’ll look to improve a Huskies team that finished 3-6 last season under coach Matt McGinnis, who resigned in January.
