Nate Diaz and Mike Perry are both headed back to MMA. Most Valuable Promotions announced that the two will meet in a five-round welterweight contest on May 16 at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. The bout will stream on Netflix and serves as one-third of a triple-headliner alongside Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano and Francis Ngannou vs. Felipe Lins.

Diaz has not competed in MMA since submitting Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279 in September 2022, the final fight under his UFC contract. Since leaving the promotion, he competed in boxing, picking up a decision win over Jorge Masvidal before dropping a decision to Jake Paul.

Perry’s absence from MMA stretches back even further. His last octagon appearance came in April 2021, when he suffered a decision loss to Daniel Rodriguez. Since then, Perry has become the face of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, going 6-0 for the company and holding the King of Violence championship. The May 16 bout will represent his first MMA contest in four years.

Both fighters spoke ahead of the announcement via a press release. Diaz said, “Glad to be back in action. It’s time. Don’t forget where this all came from. I got plans on doing a lot more in the next 10 years, no matter where it is. Time to set the bar again, so get ready for a new takeover again and again until the end of time.”

Perry added, “The King of Violence returns to MMA to elbow his opponent in the f*cking face. Saturday, May 16th, on Netflix, Nate Diaz is going lights out.”

MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian framed the addition of Diaz vs. Perry as a statement bout for the promotion. “MVP delivered the most-viewed boxing event since the advent of cable, and now we’re set to break records again with the biggest viewership in MMA history with the addition of Diaz vs. Perry to Rousey vs. Carano and Ngannou vs. Lins,” Bidarian said.

“Nate Diaz is the Real BMF, and Mike Perry is the King of Violence — this will be a war from the first press conference all the way to the end when one of them has their hand raised. It’s an absolutely massive night of fights in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 16th, as we continue building some of the biggest global events in combat sports. Thank you to Netflix for believing in our vision. The future of MMA is bright.”
