The Peoria County Coroner's Office said Bentley Wolfe, 15, died on Friday, March 6 after being transported to a hospital in critical condition three days earlier. The teen was "struck in the head by a line drive baseball that was hit during baseball practice," the coroner's office said in a statement on Tuesday, March 10.
Wolfe, who was a student at Chrisman High School in Chrisman, Ill., "was pronounced brain dead" despite receiving "aggressive care and treatment" at the hospital, per the statement. "With much respect and gratitude, Bentley was a very heroic organ donor," the statement said.

An autopsy revealed that Wolfe "suffered detrimental head trauma due to blunt force trauma," per the coroner's office.
The teen's mother Samantha Simpson penned a heartbreaking post on Facebook announcing the death of her son. "Never ever did I ever expect to be saying this but I want everyone to hear it from me," Simpson began.
She said her son "has entered heaven where I know so many had open arms waiting on him. We are in the donor process now hoping he can save others from ever having to experience something so tragic in their life."
Simpson asked her Facebook friends to "never forget my boy" and said Wolfe "can never be forgotten," describing him as an "angel on earth."
"God needed him back," Simpson continued, thanking her friends and family for "keeping us upright" with their support. "If everyone loved and seen the world like Bentley it would be such a better place so make that your goal," Simpson concluded the post, signing off as "Forever and ever Bentley Wolfe['s] Mama."
Wolfe is survived by his parents, Samantha and Jacob, and seven siblings: Morgan Simpson, Ely Wolfe, Ty Krabel, Lucy Wolfe, Londyn Krabel, Hadley Wolfe and Madalynn Wolfe, according to an obituary.
In addition to baseball, Wolfe played basketball for Chrisman High School and was active in the Chrisman youth leadership program. His interests included tractors, trucks, "anything to do with farming" and "hanging out with all his friends and his girlfriend," his obituary said.
