The New York Yankees had a relatively quiet offseason, making very few moves. The biggest question throughout the winter was whether or not the Yankees were going to bring back Cody Bellinger. The Yankees and Bellinger were finally able to get a deal done.

“Cody Bellinger's deal with the New York Yankees is for five years and $162.5 million, sources tell ESPN. There are opt-outs after the second and third season -- which get pushed back a year in the event of a work stoppage that kills the 2027 season -- a $20 million signing bonus and a full no-trade clause,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote.

The move signaled that young phenom Jasson Dominguez could lose some valuable playing time in the outfield. Dominguez has maintained a good mindset regarding the possibility, showing his maturity.

“Obviously, I hear all of that, but I try not to focus on that,” Domínguez said. “I try not to focus on that, because there is a Spring Training coming and this is baseball. A lot of things can happen.”

However, during Spring Training, it has been Trent Grissom who has struggled the most. Dominguez has made the most of his opportunities, and if that continues, it could create an uncomfortable decision for the Yankees.

“If the ultimate goal is to win a World Series, then the best players need to be on the Opening Day roster. Grisham's status in that regard isn't in question. The Yankees won't eat $22 million just because of a lackluster spring. But is his job as the starting center fielder starting to rest on shaky ground? If he continues to struggle and Dominguez finishes the spring with the most impressive performance, he could force the issue. In this scenario, Cody Bellinger would move to center, Dominguez would take over in left, and Grisham would become the fourth outfielder,” Yanks Go Yard’s Stephen Parello wrote.

This is an interesting situation brewing in Yankees camp, especially with Aaron Judge competing for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Grisham is a veteran, so the struggles are likely temporary, but if they continue, the Yankees could have a difficult decision on their hands.

Dominguez knew coming in that he had to prove himself, and he has done a fine job of that so far. The young star may have entered camp with the mindset needed to earn a starting spot on Opening Day.
