Newmarket girls basketball comes up short in Division IV championship

NEW LONDON - The Newmarket High School girls basketball team was seconds away from winning its first state championship in program history.

Mylee Kenison and her Groveton High School teammates had other plans.

Kenison's two free throws gave second-seeded Groveton, the defending Division IV state champions, a 43-42 lead with 6.9 seconds left, and the Eagles added another free throw and rallied for a 44-42 win over the fifth-seeded Mules in the Division IV state championship game on Saturday, March 7 at Colby-Sawyer College.

Newmarket finished its season with a record of 18-4, and Groveton ended at 20-2.
