Entering the 2026 offseason, the San Francisco 49ers have a major need at two key positions: wide receiver and along the defensive line.
While their defensive line need might be more important, the 49ers cannot ignore their wide receiver need this offseason. Re-signing Jauan Jennings would be the simplest solution, but that's easier said than done.
According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, the 49ers' chances of re-signing Jennings this offseason aren't great. In fact, Wagoner expects that the 28-year-old WR will leave in free agency this offseason.

"FA most likely on the move: Jauan Jennings," Wagoner writes. "The Niners would like to keep Jennings, but the two sides didn't come close to figuring out a long-term deal last summer, and Jennings didn't have a big enough season to budge them."
While Jennings is a top free agent wide receiver, the 49ers haven't seen enough from him to justify the massive contract he's slated to receive this offseason.
A different wide receiver-needy team will spend on Jennings, as there are plenty of teams in need of WR help and not a lot of great options this offseason in free agency.
After posting 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025, Jennings is hitting free agency after five seasons in San Francisco.

He caught 210 passes for 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career with the 49ers. Add in his 289 receiving yards and one touchdown on 23 receptions in the playoffs, and Jennings was a very productive seventh-round pick for the 49ers.
Jennings is hitting free agency, and according to Wagoner, he's expected to leave for a new team this offseason. Wagoner writes that it's "difficult to envision" Jennings returning to the 49ers this offseason. The veteran WR is likely on his way out.
The 49ers still need to add WR help this offseason, as they now not only need to replace Brandon Aiyuk, but likely Jennings as well.
