Barcelona’s presidential election on 15 March could play a key role in deciding the future of coach Hansi Flick.

Flick’s future linked to Barcelona elections

The upcoming presidential election at Barcelona is affecting several key issues inside the club including the future of head coach Hansi Flick.

The vote scheduled for 15 March may determine whether the current sporting project continues.

According to reports from Sky Sport Germany, the German coach feels comfortable working in Barcelona and supports the current project but his future could change depending on who wins the election.

Laporta defends the current project

Joan Laporta addressed the situation in comments reported by Mundo Deportivo. He explained that Flick has clearly stated he is happy with the project and with the people he works with at the club.

Laporta also highlighted the strong relationship between Flick and sporting director Deco saying both are aligned with the club’s current plans.

Rival candidate raises questions

Laporta then referred to his election rival Victor Font suggesting that the candidate plans to change the club’s sporting structure. According to Laporta, Font wants to replace Deco with a group of three people sharing the same responsibilities.

The Barcelona president claimed that Flick does not support such changes and prefers stability within the sporting department. Laporta also warned that Font represents the main threat to the current football project at the club.
