Warrenton girls 8th grade basketball team wins state title

On Sunday March 1, the Warrenton 8th grade girls basketball team won the middle school basketball state tournament in Salem. They defeated Madras/Warm Springs 60-52 in the championship game. They won 5 of 6 games on the weekend with their only loss being to Madras on Saturday night. They also defeated Yamhill-Carlton 52-40 on Friday evening and Crescent Valley 45-17 on Saturday afternoon before losing to Madras 66-54.

On Sunday they beat Banks 40-28 and Seaside 48-20 to make it to the championship. They were down by nine at halftime and battled back to win.

The team has six 8th graders and four 7th graders; six of the girls have played together for five years.
