I’m looking forward to this one and no doubt the players will be, too.

Leeds have come into some good form over the past few months but still need a win or two to remove any relegation fears completely — although I suspect they’ll be safe regardless.

It’ll be a tough game in a good atmosphere — Leeds fans on social media seem to have tried to generate some sort of rivalry with us this season, more than usual — but after a strong display at Bournemouth and a lingering sense of injustice, we can get something tonight.

And I think we will.

‘The Champion’ Malc Dugdale predicts…

Score prediction: Leeds 0 Sunderland 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Dan Ballard

The only bad performance on the pitch at Bournemouth was the useless wanker with the whistle (and his mates with the VAR screens), but we came away with a vital away point that probably should’ve been three.

With the same team, I think we have a chance of going one better at Leeds, but there may be knocks with the games so close together and with more missing starters, it could impact our chances with this game.

I’m going for a narrow 0-1 away win in the hope we can park the bus, try to hit them on the break when the chance arises or get a set piece for Ballard to score after his new contract was signed, and prepare for the FA Cup.

I’d love to see us win but if we don’t lose — as was my hope before the trip to Bournemouth — that’s the key at decent away venues — which Elland Road certainly is.

Find a way, Régis. We know you can.

Jack Howe-Gingell predicts…

Score prediction: Leeds 1 Sunderland 2

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Enzo Le Fée

It’ll be a tough trip to Leeds after a gruelling journey to Bournemouth where we had to dig in for a point — as much as dismal refereeing let us down.

Leeds competed well against Manchester City and they’ll be more than up for trying to get a good result at home against us.

That said, we’ve been a better side than Leeds this season and I do think we have more quality in our side. The key thing is that we must match their intensity or the match will get away from us.

A few bits of quality will get us over the line for a rare away win. It’d be nice to get a win away after a solid point last time, and I back us to get it done.

Will Jones predicts…

Score prediction: Leeds 1 Sunderland 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Habib Diarra

Elland Road on a Tuesday is always a slog, and with the injuries we have, it’s very much a case of digging in and taking whatever we can get.

Leeds will come flying out as they did against City, but they lack a cutting edge and we showed at Bournemouth that we can scrap even when not on form.

Diarra’s the one you can see gagging for a goal after assisting at the weekend. He should’ve had one against Bournemouth and he’s always close to scoring.

Matty Foster predicts…

Score prediction: Leeds 1 Sunderland 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Eliezer Mayenda

The Bournemouth game showed a vast improvement in performance by the Lads but unfortunately not from the match officials.

Tonight will be another tough game, under the lights at Elland Road.

Barring games against the top two, Leeds have had some decent results of late and with the atmosphere, we’ll definitely have our work cut out.

Can I see us getting something? Absolutely. Another draw — whilst not great for form — is always welcome on the road.

I’ll back us to nab a point here, with Mayenda opening the scoring.

Anthony Gair predicts…

Score prediction: Leeds 1 Sunderland 2

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Habib Diarra

After the frustrations surrounding the refereeing during the last twelve games or so, hopefully the referees can’t show any kind of ‘Premier League bias’ to either of the promoted sides.

We’re due a win, and if we play like we did against Bournemouth for the first 85 minutes, we’ll be alright.

We’ll score against this keeper, easily. He’s not very good but Leeds are intense. I’ll continue to pray for a win, and I suppose that’s why I’m bottom of this league.

Haway!

Gary Winter predicts…

Score prediction: Leeds 1 Sunderland 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Habib Diarra

It was a much -improved performance against a good Bournemouth side. Equally importantly, we picked up a valuable point to stop the mini-rot, showing a lot of character under tough circumstances with some dodgy officiating.

A trip to Elland Road to play Leeds under the lights will present a potentially very difficult challenge. The atmosphere will be rocking, so it’s imperative we can nullify it and take out the sting. Their form is as mixed as ours, but with Granit Xhaka back and leading, I’m hoping we can pinch another point on the way to the magic forty.

I fancy Diarra to get a goal with one of his bursts into the box, and I’ll take the 1-1, as they’ll be desperate for the three points.

Brett Lyons-Davis predicts…

Score prediction: Leeds 0 Sunderland 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Enzo Le Fée

Leeds under the lights at Elland Road.

They seem to raise their game for these sort of occasions but if we can go to Bournemouth and feel disappointed with a draw, there’s no reason we can’t leave Yorkshire with something.

My biggest concern at the time of writing is if Granit Xhaka’s studded ankle and later substitution are linked and he’s carrying a knock. I’ll be surprised if he’s risked if it’s the case.

However, the performance on Saturday gave me enough confidence we can get three points and hit the magic forty.

Last time out…

Our performance at Bournemouth was a real breath of fresh air and we could well have had our first away win in a while if not for the awful decision making both on the park and in the Porta-Kabins at Stockley.

Penalties declined, red cards waived away, hand balls involved in goals…and to top it all off, the blokes couldn’t even count to ninety without taking their socks and shoes off and phoning a friend.

Before the last game, most of us would’ve taken a draw, so it was undeniably a good point which halted our dip in form.

If we work that hard and play as well as a team, there’s no reason we can’t match or better that at Leeds before the FA Cup tie this weekend.

Last game predictions…

Only two of the lads backed us to get a 1-1 draw last time around, with three home wins called, and three away wins.

Malc and Will were the ones who ended up gutted but happy with the 1-1 outcome, and Gair was the only writer to predict an Eliezer Mayenda goal, so he gets a point for his troubles.

Predictions table and standings

Malc moves up to second and Will pulls clear at the top, being the two who got the last 1-1 score correct.

Gair is within a correct score prediction of catching Martin, which is almost as good a contest to watch as the race for the title in our little league.

How the points are awarded

Just a quick reminder of how we allocate points to our match-by-match predictions:

  • Correct score = Three points
  • Correct outcome (but not correct score) = One point
  • Correct first Sunderland goalscorer = One point (no goalscorer is a valid call)
  • Possible deductions for being lazy and not submitting on time = a two-point deduction.
