The Winnipeg Jets aren't entirely, totally out of the playoff picture.

But realistically, they're long shots to chase down a spot in the postseason. And that means it's time to at least think about being sellers before the NHL's March 6 trade deadline.

Winnipeg doesn't need to do a crazy sell-off. There's reason to believe they have a solid future ahead of them.

But at least with players who are on expiring contracts, trades should probably be considered.

Logan Stanley is one of those guys.

He's still just 27, and the Jets could try to extend them.

But because of his age, and his cheap $1.25 million cap hit, Stanley could also be of interest to a lot of other teams in a trade.

In a new trade board on Daily Faceoff, Matt Larkin puts Stanley in his first tier, among guys he believes most likely to be traded.

"Stanley is still young enough to be part of Winnipeg’s present and future," Larkin writes. "But with his blend of size and snarl, he could be quite a sought-after commodity, the type that could net something pretty shiny in a trade."

If the Jets can land an early-round pick for a player who might leave in free agency over the summer, it's a cost that would be tough to pass up.

Stanley could develop into an even better player elsewhere, but that's not really the determination Winnipeg is trying to make.

Extension talks with Stanley this week would be reasonable, but if they don't come together, then it makes a lot of sense to get something for him rather than nothing.
