A couple of big plays down the stretch helped the visiting East Forsyth varsity boys’ basketball team claim a 55-52 win over conference rival Reynolds on Monday night.

“I thought we played really well,” Head Coach Joe Coulter said. “We had spurts of going up by 11 a couple of times. But they hit some big three-pointers in the fourth quarter that got them close. Lucas Costello only had one point, but he hit a big free throw that put us up by three points with 28 seconds left. Him hitting that free throw was huge. I think another big key for us was Joseph Allen taking a charge with 44 seconds left. That really got our guys fired up and it changed possession. That was a really big play on his part.”

The Spartans missed what would have been a game-tying three-pointer from the corner at the buzzer.

East’s Dominique Tshiboyi had 15 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. AJ Wesley finished with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists and Allen had seven points, six rebounds and three steals.

East Forsyth was scheduled to close out the regular season Wednesday night with an away game against Northwest Guilford.

“We lost to them by four points the first time we played them. The biggest thing was we gave up too many offensive rebounds and they got extra chances. We did not close out and control the boards. We have to contain their big man and get out on the shooters,” Coulter said on Tuesday.
