Vanderbilt has four top-10 wins this season over Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan and LSU. The Commodores are undefeated at Memorial Gymnasium, where they are likely to host NCAA tournament games next month.
The other teams that would be in Vanderbilt's bracket, according to the committee rankings, are No. 6 Michigan, No. 12 TCU and No. 13 Maryland.
Vanderbilt hasn't been a top-four seed since 2008-09 and hasn't been a No. 2 seed since 2006-07. The Commodores' last No. 1 seed was in the 2001-02 season.
Tournament metrics have Vanderbilt in the No. 2 seed range. The Commodores are No. 7 in the NET and No. 5 in Wins Above Bubble. Their 6-2 Quadrant 1 record is a little lighter than the projected No. 1 seeds but better than the No. 2 seeds.
The head-to-head win for Vanderbilt over Texas was a big separator in the rankings.
Mikayla Blakes is the country's leading scorer at 26.2 points per game. She has had four straight 30-point games against Florida, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas.
