Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka has received heavy backlash for his inability to make a significant slash on the trade market this season.

The Lakers sent Gabe Vincent and a 2031 second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for three-point sniper Luke Kennard, but didn’t address any of their other needs (rim protection and perimeter defense).
Many have called for the Lakers to move on from Pelinka after a lackluster trade season, and according to Lakers insider Jovan Buva, Los Angeles has made its stance clear on the subject.
“Nothing has changed from what I’ve reported/said on my show,” Buha wrote on X/Twitter Monday. “He’s (Pelinka) going to be leading their front-office overhaul this summer.”
It appears the Lakers feel confident in Pelinka running the show moving forward. After all, the 56-year-old is responsible for landing Luka Doncic in the most lopsided trade in NBA history (The Dallas Mavericks have already given up on Anthony Davis, making Pelinka and the Lakers look like geniuses).
That said, Pelinka has a pivotal offseason ahead of him. The Chicago, Illinois native must continue to build on his game-changing Doncic-centered trade and form a roster that can compete for championships in the foreseeable future.
Right now, though, the main focus for the Lakers is trying to make the most of the rest of their 2025-26 campaign.
