That second win proved elusive, as the Sun Devils fell to Colorado, 78-70, at the CU Events Center in Big 12 play on Saturday, Feb. 7.
ASU (12-12, 3-8 Big 12) shot 40% (23-for-57), which included going 8-for-23 from long distance. They did make 16 of 18 free throws.
Meanwhile, Colorado (14-10, 4-7) shot 51% (31-for-61). The Buffaloes had a 40-26 advantage on the boards, which helped them to a 42-26 edge in the paint.
Moe Odum had 23 points for the Sun Devils, shooting 7-for-13 from the field and 4-for-8 from deep. He also had five assists. Massamba Diop added 19 points, seven rebounds, and a block. Anthony "Pig" Johnson chipped in with 14 points and three steals.
ASU was playing catch-up much of the game. The Sun Devils trailed by as many as 12 in the first half, down 39-27 with 1:57 left and were down 39-32 at the intermission.
ASU did take a short-lived lead at 42-41 on a jumper by Odum that was the end of a 10-0 run. Colorado answered on its next possession with a pull-up jumper by Barrington Hargress, who tallied 23 points, and never trailed again.
The Sun Devils were still down by one at 57-56 with 10:20 left, but an 8-0 Colorado run gave the host team some separation, and it never looked back.
Santiago Trouet returned after missing the last game, but he was on a minutes restriction, so he did not start. He was 0-for-4 from the field.
ASU returns home to face Oklahoma State on Feb. 10. Oklahoma State (16-7, 4-6) is coming off an 84-47 loss to No. 1 Arizona at McKale Center on Feb.7.
